Psalm 91

Lets take a look at Psalm 91. Billy Joe Daugherty taught this sermon recently and I want to share it so, I've tried to put as much as I can remember of it down here.
Verse 1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. The secret place is referring to the fellowship we can have with God. We dwell in fellowship with the Almighty, Baptize (immerse) ourselves in His Word, get the wisdom in our spirit deep within us so that the Word becomes foremost in our minds and thoughts. That is what verse 1 is talking about.
Verse 2. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." There are 4 things we Must declare verbally in order to receive what the rest of the Psalm is talking about. The entire Psalm 91 is based upon the conditions of these first two verses. God is my refuge. God is my fortress. God is my God. In God I will put my trust.
Verse 3. Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. God will deliver me from whatever trap (snare) the devil (fowler) lays for me and from whatever pestilence may come against me. Webster's dictionary defines pestilence as;
1 : a contagious or infectious epidemic disease that is virulent and devastating;
2 : something that is destructive or pernicious
So, God will deliver me from any disease or anything that is destructive, as long as I do the things in verses 1 and 2.
Verse 4 He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. God will cover me, or, protect me under his covering of grace and mercy and I shall take my refuge there. His truth is His Word. His Word shall be my shield and buckler. I stand on the Word of God as protection.
Verse 5. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, With the covering I verse 4, there is no terror that I need fear. Nor arrows (bullets). I am totally protected by God. "No weapon formed against me shall prosper"
Verse 6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. More of God's excellent covering. It doesn't matter when bad things come, in darkness of night or in the middle of the day, It doesn't matter what it is, a pestilence, disease, tornado, hurricane, earthquake, debt, injury,.. God will deliver me from it as long as I follow the first two verses and live them.
Verses 7-8 A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked. I may see bad things happening all around me to all kinds of people. I may be in the middle of the worst storm, as long as I keep the first two verses in my heart and speak my victory in God, I don't need to worry because I will be delivered, even as all around me fall.
Verse 9-10 Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your habitation, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; This confirms all the previous verses. If I walk in fellowship with God, make Him my habitation, No evil, Nothing bad will befall me, take me down, happen to me. No plague will come near my dwelling. This means that God will not only protect me, but, He is going to protect my house as well. Note the semicolon at the end of verse 10. That means we're about to find out why no evil will hit.
Verse 11-13 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. They shall bear you up in their hands, Lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. God sends His angels to protect me in all my ways. This does not give me free license to do dumb things as God also gave me a brain and expects me to use it. I believe this means I will not suffer innocently. I shall tread on the lion and cobra. This does not mean I can get a job at the Zoo and have at it, But refers to the demons and devils that Satan throws against me. I have power over them through God's Word and I can put them under my feet.
Verse 14-16 "Because he has set his
love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation." Here's power. Because I do the things in verses 1-2, Love the Lord, He will deliver me. He promotes me (read gives prosperity here), sets me on high because I have that relationship with Him. I know that I can talk to God, I can ask things of Him because I have a relationship with Him and He will answer me. When I get into trouble, He will be there with me. This does not mean trouble will never come my way, but God will be there with me when times are tough and he will bring me out of whatever trouble I'm in. Not only that, but He will honor me, He will grant me a long life, long enough to satisfy me. And He will show me His full salvation. Webster's dictionary defines salvation as;
1 deliverance from the power and effects of sin
2 liberation from ignorance or illusion
3 preservation from destruction or failure, deliverance from danger or difficulty
Salvation means more than just going to heaven, it means freedom from ignorance, the ignorance that Satan has tried to put on the body of Christ that we are supposed to be broken down, pitiful slaves with no power. We are to be strong in the Lord, He guarantees to set us on high and to honor us. You don't honor poverty and sickness. We as the body of Christ need to get a full grasp on the wonderful grace God gave us when He sent our Lord Jesus to die on the cross for us.
How about you? are you able to claim the coverings in this Psalm?
How can I be ready?
Are we living in the last days?
Tell me about prosperity
